Absurd Ideas Create Success

Absurd Ideas Create Success

"If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it." - Albert Einstein
I think we can all agree that Albert Einstein was a pretty smart guy and came up with some great ideas and concepts, but his quote above is also great advice to all of us in business. It's a quote that I have printed on my business card and something I embrace in creating new companies and products

A recession is a great opportunity to start a business and go out on your own, and there is an explosion of people doing just that. A huge number of Boomers, who have been thrown out of their corporate lives, think they will now become entrepreneurs and strike out on their own.  They think, "Hey, I spent 20 years in management of that corporation so I can certainly run my own little startup."

But hold on there, newbie. To be a successful entrepreneur, you may first have to retrain your brain. If you spent time at a large company in management, accounting, finance or general data control, you've been living in a left-brain world with left-brain thinking.

In a standard corporate environment, we often get stuck in logical, rational left-brain "linear thinking" following the same thought paths that the industry uses and we recognize as the norm.

That's not a necessarily a bad thing. For a big, stable company, it can be a good thing. It's a logical, secure path that we're comfortable with, but it does not inspire new ideas. You can't steer a giant battle ship on impulse - and you also can't turn one on a dime.

Right versus left is not just in politics.

A small startup is a different world that requires different thinking. In a new small business we begin to look at new and different ways to do our business. We must be creative, impulsive and move quickly to adapt to the constant changes that come with every new day. Your right brain is the creative side and must be activated and running on all cylinders so you don't get stuck on one idea or process.

Luke Mansfield, head of innovation in the London office of branding agency Landor Associates, points out that, "If your business has only one answer, or one definition of innovation, it's time to try something new. You will be amazed at the results."

Embrace the absurd! Many successful inventors, innovators, marketing and business people started out with what others considered an absurd, silly, can't-be-done idea. You know, the light bulb, wind-powered electrical generators, the list goes on throughout history.

I love kids. They are the greatest inventors.  I am always delighted by kids' boundless excitement and enthusiasm for life - and their wide imaginations. They have this uninhibited ability to think the absurd, imagine the undoable openly and without reservations.

But alas, they are then taught the linear thinking in a regimented world and join the rest of the dead heads.

We should never stop asking "What if?" and "Why not?" Be ABSURD, think crazy thoughts, have impossible ideas!

If you have or can capture that childlike absurd enthusiasm, don't let anyone cool you off or calm you down because you, my friend, are headed toward success. Just think, if Al had not thought the absurd, someone would have come up with E=ONICBD (oh never mind, it can't be done).

Creative Advertising Ideas for Your Grand Opening

Creative Advertising Ideas for Your Grand Opening

Your store grand opening is one of the biggest and most important day's of your new business's life and a very big part of ensuring it's success over the coming years.  One of the main aspects of a grand opening is advertising.  New businesses usually don't have a lot of money to spare on advertising and promoting, but not advertising is obviously not an option.  If necessity is the mother of invention, then new entrepreneurs are in need of grand opening and creative advertising ideas.  Here are some creative grand opening ideas (some are common sense) to help give your business a kick-start.

One of the best grand opening ideas is to have a goodie bag (either a zip close sandwich baggie, party favor bag, or some other small container and put your new business cards, some candy, a coupon for your new business, an invitation to your grand opening, one of your new promotional products, or whatever you think would be best to include in the first impression of your new business.  Have a few with you wherever you go and hand them out!  Leave it with your waitress' tip (make sure it's a good tip too!), offer it to the person behind you in the check-out line, give them to friends and family at your child's sports event, ask your hairdresser to give one to her next customer… anything and anyone you can think of to get the information about your new enterprise into as many hands as possible.  This is much more memorable than simply handing out a flyer for your first day or offering your business card to acquaintances and gives a much better first impression of you and your new company.
Another creative advertising trick is to ask local businesses and apartment complexes if you can leave fliers inviting people to your store grand opening.  Be sure this flier has all pertinent information on it (directions to your new store, phone numbers, websites, email addresses, coupons, etc).  Also offer special coupons and discounts (maybe even some freebees) to the employee's and owners of those who agree to let you advertise to their clients.
Grand opening promotions is all about advertising your new company in a high traffic area without having to pay the big bucks for a top advertising agency. Find some way of specifically targeting those who spend the money and do the most shopping for themselves and their families – moms and wives!  That might mean asking for permission to post fliers at local daycares, parks, grocery stores, or schools.  And be sure to remember that this niche market is often very big on a good deal.  Women love a good, honest, coupon.
Places of worship and other religious facilities are another good place to announce your store grand opening.  Most churches hold a spring and fall festival where booths are very inexpensive.  Set up an inviting table, well-stocked with some kid-friendly promotional products as well as plenty of information about your new company.  An additional grand opening idea is to have a contest drawing for anyone willing to exchange their contact information.  This will give you jump-start on a potential customer listing.

Some Blogging Ideas

Some Blogging Ideas

One of the best ways to drive traffic to your website is to write a blog about your business.  We'll ask our clients if they're willing to do this - it's only worth doing it if you're willing to update it pretty much every working day and for some people that's too much of a commitment.  There are other options, such as paying a professional copywriter or blogger to do it for you, but then you don't really have the chance to share your insights with your potential clients and impress the socks off of them.

It's not too much to ask though, as long as you have some good ideas.  Pretty much every day something will come along in your working life which you can share with someone - why not share it with your blogging audience and reap the benefits of it.

Some ideas you might want to write about would be:

A new product or service that you offer
An anecdote of the day - a funny story is always good ("We deleted the website and didn't have a back-up.  ho ho!") - your website doesn't always have to be deadly serious and doesn't even have to always be on-topic (although it should be sometimes!)
Something you've learned today - either a way to save yourself some time or a new technique that turned out to be useful or something
Something you're proud of - perhaps you helped a client achieve something?
A list - your top 5 favourite websites relevant to your business, etc
A quiz - first correct answer gets a free something
A free bit of advice for your clients

That's a decent list to get started with.  A blog doesn't have to take up all of your working day but it's an easy way to keep your website fresh, make your website more personal and drive traffic to your site.  It also gives your customers a reason to keep coming back to your site and the more they come back, the more likely they are to buy something from you!

Discover Underused Social Media Marketing Ideas To Promote Your Law Firm

Discover Underused Social Media Marketing Ideas To Promote Your Law Firm

Lawyers often don't use all of the advertising available to them, and social media marketing is underused as a tool. It can be a great way to connect you to the public and give you better traffic to your websites when you use them.

They give you the ability to increase your search engine rankings, which in turn gives you more traffic to your website. This is a very affordable way to connect your firm to potential clients and provide an information service at the same time when you make sure that you have content on the videos and sites that are good for people to use.

Videos can enhance articles and other written content on blogs, or replace them entirely while allowing people to feel like they know you. YouTube is one of the most popular video sites with videos 10 minutes or less, and they can be used to discuss legal topics that can help you become known as an online expert.

Videos can be added to blogs as well. You can have your blog written by you, or you can pay someone to keep it updated with valid content. With blogs, it is important not to be a commercial since the better the information you offer, the more people will return to it and consider you for other legal needs.

Another underestimated aspect to media marketing is using podcasts. These allow you to create videos that can be downloaded onto mobile devices so people can watch them anywhere. By linking back to your blog, you can advertise yourself and give information that people will want to see, which can turn them into clients in the future. It can explain the ways you reach potential clients.

Many people forget that Myspace and Facebook can also provide a untapped source of marketing. Now they are used for more then social networking, and can be an effective tool. A general information page sponsored by you, especially on Facebook, will be more effective then a fan page for your firm. It can add value to your marketing, and point them to other links and video.

You can also point your business card to the sites you are using, so people can get more information and see your knowledge in action. This type of social media marketing can be very effective and put a face to your law firm and help you expand your clientele.

Social media marketing sites are greatly underused by attorneys. It can be used to get your firm and practice to the public and help increase the traffic to your site with some undervalued strategies. The ultimate inside scoop now on

Great Birthday Themes and Catering Ideas

Great Birthday Themes and Catering Ideas

Great Birthday Themes and Catering Ideas

As we get older, we become a little more relaxed about having birthday parties and styling a theme to become a real party.  Generally most of us are a little more financially secure than when we had our 18th or 21st.

Today we receive many enquiries for 40th 50th and 60th Birthday Parties.  These are great parties that on occasions work to a theme and have suppliers to suit the evening.  Cabaret Night, Movie Star Night is very popular, with guests generally having clothing and costumes in their wardrobe to suit.

The evening can be welcomed with guests arriving at a particular time.  This works perfectly if you have a gate or partition that guests will have to wait if they are early.  Building the atmosphere is wonderful in this regard, and really gives guests a chance to talk and get excited about the night ahead.

Providing a drinks table on arrival, with staff to serve is a great way to start a party.  The best cabaret party we have been too had staff dressed in theme, which really was a great talking point.  It allowed guests to loosen into the party and have a few laughs.

When catering to an older crowd, it can be a lot of fun when selecting a menu and caterer to suit.  As guests will appreciate the food supplied, it is up to you to choose the style, quantity and budget to suit.  Mix the service up with Thai Chicken Curry, Stir-fry's, Beef Stroganoff or simply anti-pesto and fruit platters to suit everyone.

A flamboyant menu does not need to cost a fortune, and if guests are staying late into the night it may be a great idea to offer mid-night munchies to guests.

While having catering provided, with service for 2 keep in mind that guests will become hungry again later in the night.  Easy to make food that is filling is great to serve once guests have had an intake of alcohol.

Enjoy your Birthday Party, and don't be shy to have it your way!

Internet Marketing Ideas and Lessons to Learn to Be a Successful Internet Marketer

Internet Marketing Ideas and Lessons to Learn to Be a Successful Internet Marketer

Here are some "conclusions" that will help out just about any entrepreneur, especially internet marketers:

IDEA #1 - Online video is powerful.

EXAMPLE: Steve Lindhorst, a successful internet marketer, put up a short video about paper airplanes and while he did mention it on his blog (which got him several hundred views) the crazy thing about that video is that it had gotten over 33,000 views in a matter of a few months from random traffic on

It's also ranked very well on Google for the keywords used. Several of his other videos are getting great results too. The best part is that MAKING VIDEO IS SIMPLE.

LESSON: Video gets clicks and traffic.

IDEA #2 - Knowing how to think is far more valuable than knowing how to do the work.

EXAMPLE: I'd estimate that 90% of everyone that sets out to profit online is thinking that the key to success lies in having a big pretty website that is search engine optimized.

This is an EXPENSIVE and INEFFECTIVE way to think.

I've spoken and emailed back and forth with countless people that are burned out and broke after taking that path. A quick lesson in HOW TO THINK about the Internet has been priceless for them all.

LESSON: Simple strategies like info products, growing a mailing list, doing joint ventures, and finding your audience BEFORE you develop a product seem like common sense to many of us, but these are revolutionary ideas to most people.

FILTERED IDEA #3 - Have a community to help you.

LESSON: By joining an internet marketing group and/or forum whether it's FREE or paid, it's a great way to bounce ideas and get help from like-minded people as well as to get encouragement and motivation.

IDEA #4 - It's easier to keep customers happy than it is to find new customers

LESSON: Don't ignore your past customers once they buy from you. Most of your most rewarding future business is likely with them.

How to find a niche that is profitable for businessThe most important and difficult task to do when starting niche marketing is doing site research. As with any business it is much easier to start with something that you are interested in and excited about. Since this is an internet home business, and most traffic (85%) to the websites will be determined by the big three search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN, it is a good place to start your research from. This research should focus on the following three aspects, as described above for a niche marketHigh demand: Using tools like Inventory Overture  you will be able to find out whether the product you have in mind is wanted. Type in your niche market term describing your product and you will see how many searches for this term and other related terms were done in the past month.

The number of searches per month will depend on the niche market, but in general look for terms that are not higher than 20,000 a month.

Low supply: Take the selected terms and type in these terms in the search engines. The results will give you an estimation how much competition there is or how many sites are available on the internet for these niche marketing terms. Ideally there should be a good balance between the number of searches and results a month. As a thumb rule, you should look for terms that have less than 1,000,000 searches per month for Google, 400,000 for Yahoo and 250,000 for MSN. Based on the balance between demand and supply you could reduce the number of terms and narrow down your market niche

Online Lead Generation Ideas

Online Lead Generation Ideas

According to Napoleon, an army marches on its stomach. Business doesn't march, but it does need to be fed - with a rich supply of well targeted leads. Four of my favourite lead generation ideas follow...

Bring out your dead
Article Marketing
Problem solving

Bring out your Dead:

Most businesses have a large number of former leads in their database. These are people or companies that have responded to marketing initiatives in the past, but didn't buy. As a result, they sit there in the database unloved and unremembered.

The fact is, they're a rich source of leads and you probably already know a lot about them. For example, you should know what they responded to. And what happened once they arrived at your site. You may even know why they said 'no' to the last marketing effort.

These leads aren't dead, and it's important to view them as unrealised opportunities. Whatever you were offering wasn't compelling enough at the time. Perhaps it is now? Or perhaps you've since developed a more exciting offer. Either way, I've found 'old' leads are a surprisingly rich source of new business.

Article Marketing:

A topical article will attract a certain type of person. Such a person is able to read (obviously), interested in the topic in question, and willing to actively seek out information about it on the Internet.

No matter what your product or service, you can promote it via article marketing. Of course, the article has to be interesting. That means it can't simply be a pitch for your business. This is lead generation, rather than lead conversion.

The best articles deliver genuinely useful information, and provide a link back to your site for more information. You can (if you wish to) link directly to a landing page designed to pick up where the article left off.

In addition to generating leads directly, an article can also provide SEO benefit via contextual links. This gives you an immediate and an ongoing source of leads. The more articles you write, the better you'll do.

You needn't limit your activity to written articles. Videos posted to sites such as You Tube can also deliver warm leads. In fact, video is an excellent way to demonstrate the benefits of a complex product. It also offers the opportunity to convey emotion far more effectively than words on a screen.

Twitter is a great way to pick up leads. Simply post a 'tweet' about your topic, and link it to a landing page on your web site. Anyone following you on Twitter will see the 'tweet' and can click through if they're interested.

If your post contains useful keywords, it will also be picked up by people searching Twitter for information about that keyword. For example, many of my 'Tweets' deliberately include keywords such as lead generation, online marketing and SEO.

Your purpose is to send people to your site, and you don't get a lot of text to make your case. It's worth writing and rewriting a 'tweet', and make it as compelling as possible. Ideally, the landing page will pick up where the 'tweet' left off.

Problem Solving:

All marketing is essentially an attempt to get paid for solving a problem. One way to generate a lead, is to offer to solve a problem you know your target market has. You then link to a landing page designed to sell the solution. For example, a person who needs to know how to write ad copy (and can't) is likely to respond to an ad like this: Can't write ad copy that sells? I can show you how in just 7 minutes.

Normally, the page being linked to would then pick up where the ad left off, and try to convince the lead s/he really can write powerful sales copy by purchasing the seller's product.

Most people won't believe the seller (and who can blame them). Doubt will creep in, and spoil the deal. I've developed a lead generation technique that overcomes this doubt, and delivers a far higher conversion rate.

My approach is to provide a solution to the problem I offered to solve, right there on the web (free of charge, and without collecting personal contact data). The solution is delivered, and in doing so a bigger problem becomes obvious. One that requires expert advice or help to solve. I offer to provide that help, and ask if they're interested.

If they say yes, I have the warmest leads it's possible to generate.

Top Ideas that Any Marketing Agency Will Tell You to Try First

Top Ideas that Any Marketing Agency Will Tell You to Try First

If you have a small business that is just getting started, there are a few things you can do before you retain the services of a marketing agency to help you in the marketing arena. With a few right moves, you can get started on a positive note with a basic game plan set in place before turning to a professional firm for additional guidance.

Define your Customer and Communicate Effectively

Don't fall into the new business trap of not knowing who your customers are. It is important to identify your target market through effective due diligence such as market research and the ability to fulfil a particular need that may not be totally taken care of by your competitors. It is important that you find a way to stand out from your competitors such as superior customer service.

Brainstorm on paper to ensure you are projecting the right message to your potential customers. A marketing agency will often have new businesses do a SWOT analysis, evaluating their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat factors that might impede business operations.

Spell Out Benefits and Features of your Products and Services

It is important that you present the most pleasing features of your products and services. However, it is equally important to support those features by advertising the benefits the customers will reap if they use your products over a competitor's. Why would your products and services be better?

Follow-through is an additional feature of promoting your business. Once you have attracted a potential customer to use your product or service, speak with them about their needs and how you can meet those needs. Even if you cannot close the sale immediately, it is important to follow-through by calling or emailing them. This action shows that you care about them as a customer and illustrates that by going with your company, customer service will be excellent. Follow-ups are the key to sales conversions down the line as well as positive word of mouth to new, potential clients.

Maintain Marketing Momentum

It is important to structure your marketing budget in such a way as to keep your company brand name in the public eye year round. Many new businesses have a huge marketing push only to run out of advertising dollars before year end and then experience stagnant sales. For this reason, internet marketing can be helpful through the use of blogging, banner ads, website-only specials and email marketing to existing customers about special sales.

While you can definitely succeed without the help of a marketing agency, it is important to allocate a portion of your budget to hiring one, even if it is to just check where you are in relation to promotions, advertising and industry placement. Having a marketing professional assess your business and present suggestions for improvement is important to your overall, long-term success.

Seo – Ideas On Producing Seo Blog Content Look Great

Seo – Ideas On Producing Seo Blog Content Look Great

It is extremely suggested that you Search engine optimization your weblog content. It is not recommended nevertheless that you simply make your weblog sound stiff and technical for the sake of attracting search engines like google. When it comes to truly incorporating your keywords into your blog duplicate maintain in mind that the very best blogs would be the ones that sound informal. Nobody desires to examine a robotic repetitive piece of copy.

One crucial to maintaining your weblog looking neat and readable would be to keep the content much less than 300 words. 250 phrases per blog is notion. Preserving them looking reasonably uniform as well as the same duration can be extra visually eye catching and extra probably to maintain curious eyeballs on your web page and not an individual else’s.

Another factor you have to notice will be the way the headline of your weblog article looks. Shorter is virtually continually far better. Long search engine optimized weblog titles do not deliver the results if they are lower off with the finish. Make certain that any weblog headlines that you have are.

You ought to also be certain that your blog headlines aren’t also industrial or corny sounding. For instance a weblog title including “Make 1000′s a day making use of Seo!” just isn’t going to perform as well like a subtler phrase including “How Search engine optimization Let Me Quit My Day Task.” Corny headlines appear like spam to a whole lot of men and women when they get them on their RSS feeds so their eyes merely glaze more than when they see some thing like “Hoodia Miracle Weight loss Drug!” or “Grow Bigger Breasts in 3 Days.”

Unless the acronym is very well known you might be also meant to remain away from making use of them as headlines inside your weblog. However this is not suggested if your Search engine optimization title is simply too long as in “Valuable ideas for Making use of Search Engine Suggestions for Blogs.” It’s significantly much better to keep the language pretty simple as in “Top Search engine optimization Suggestions!”
