Retirement Planning for Dummies

Retirement Planning for Dummies

What did you forget to include for your retirement?  Retirement planning for dummies really does not mean you are dumb. It means that the best laid plans can overlook certain (important) facts.  We all know, or should, that during our working years we should have been paying ourselves like a monthly bill. Utilizing a 401K, IRA, or something similar to a retirement plan should be or should have been a top priority. Retirement planning for dummies takes in more than financial planning. If you have not planned for your lifestyle in your retirement planning for dummies, you've missed an important part of your future.

Most retirees of today are living longer and healthierlives. From the time we retire until the actuaries give us as a life expectancy is an additional 30 years or so past the day we retire.  So, retirement planning for dummies must include how you plan to spend the rest of your time once your financial needs have been met. So, how important are your non material needs?  Think of retirement planning for dummies as a beginning, not the end all. Keep a focus by writing in your retirement planning for dummies journal what your goals are and how you plan to achieve them.

As we stated earlier, there is going to be many years you have to fill with some activity. Within your retirement planning for dummies journal you may want to make an inventory:

1) List your personal assets, strengths, talents, skills.

2) List intangible qualities such as optimism, sense of humor,

fears (love the acronym FEAR: False Expectations (that)

Aren't Real)

3) Be real. Don't bluff or fluff.

4) Consider an internship for a hobby that always interested you.

If you don't remember as a kid, take out the photo album and

see what interested you during different ages. Dig deep.

5) List life experiences that you can offer to others

Look in your area as to workshops, seminars, volunteer work for a cause.

Retirement planning for dummies must take into account where you will live.  Do you have to scale down? Do you have to take care of elderly parents? How simple a lifestyle do you seek? Warm weather,

winter cold & snow? Mountains? Maybe the middle ground where you will live only a few hours from all of it. What is important to you as to your lifestyle and location?

FAMILY:
Are you willing to leave family, (immediate or extended), aging parents, children, grandchildren? If you are in that position, will you have room for them to stay a period of time? How about children still in school?

HOUSING:

The National Association of Home Builders publishes a spreadsheet that shows the affordability of houses around the country.

LOCAL TAXES:

Because you found that perfect house in your perfect price range, it may not be what you bargained for.

COMMUNITY:
What kind of demographics are you looking for?  Neighbors?  Convenience?  Do you want zero lot lines between your house and next door or do you want five acres? The Census Bureau's Quick Facts web site will show you population, income, business information for all counties in the United States.

Get a sense & feel for where you want to move. Call the local Chamber of Commerce or view the local newspaper online. See if there are local chat message boards or local web sites. Check with local law enforcement for safety & crime in the area. The F.B.I has a crime reporting system that they release annually.

TRANSPORTATION:
How do you get where you want to go? Are you willing to drive everywhere? Check out those gas prices. Does the area you are looking at have public transportation that is convenient to do grocery shopping, travel to the mall, take you to the cruise ship? What about airports? International or domestic? The FAA has maps showing major U.S. airports with links to smaller or regional airports. Don't forget the train or bus lines.

FAITH, RELIGION & SPIRITUALITY:
Going to your house of worship can be a great way of breaking into the community. Usually, you will be welcomed and start new friendships with those who have the start of something in common.

HEALTH CARE:
As we become wiser (certainly not older), we become wiser to our health needs. hospitals, doctors, health practitioners. You might be facing a medical challenge or specialty.

WEATHER:
Neither rain, nor snow or sleet……..Oh, yeah. That's the postman's creed. Do you want to live & play in snow or at the beach? You can certainly check the weather patterns in the coldest months (Jan-Feb) & the warmest months (July-August) to the area you are considering. The local Chamber of Commerce & online web sites can assist you in your decision.

CELL PHONE COVERAGE:
Check it out with your current service. What's involved of keeping your popular cell phone number or going through the anxiety of letting everyone know your new cell phone number. The cancellation of a contract, a new contract, area coverage. Do you plan to be a world traveler with needed coverage or just local? Dial up the coverage maps for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or your current carrier.

FOOD:
General grocery shopping is fine. However, what about; seafood, vegetarian, kosher, deli, farmers market, green market, organic market, specialty markets? Dining out…….how far do you travel to your favorite restaurant or Starbucks?

RECREATION-LEISURE-FIESTA:
What are you going to do with all this FREE TIME you now have on your hands? Golf, walking, beach, skating, cruises, gardening, traveling, cleaning your house, become a dog walker for the neighborhood, become a volunteer (so many needed)?

Did you know that there are garlic festivals all around the country? What about wine tasting? You can check online by using the key words to your desired activity. One thing for sure……look to see if there are certain gatherings in your prospective new address that might be a little overwhelming for you. Some events happen in certain areas of the country during certain times of the year.

It's easy to find a movie theater or a video rental store. What about the likes of local community live theater (dinner or not), symphony orchestras, dance companies, museums, free local tours, mall shopping.

JOBS:
WHOA! Hold on a minute. I want to go into retirement. I've done my time you say. You know what is said about idle hands……. You just may want to keep those hands busy now that you realize you're not a couch potato. So, maybe a part time position is in the cards…..mmm, a dealer at Vegas?

EDUCATION:
Ready to explore new interests or a degree? Want to study rocks……… archaeology or diamonds, they are a girls best friend. Continuing education just might be for you. A new language, become a tour guide.

LIBRARIES:
Sure there are bookstores in every mall across the country. Have you considered used book stores, libraries and their resources? Many libraries offer free classes, book readings & senior activity. Glow little book worm, glitter, glitter.

So, retirement planning for dummies takes a diligent t and a conscience effort for anyone  planning for or is in retirement. Retirement planning for dummies is only the beginning.

Have fun on your new journey.

Stock Trading For Dummies - Details You Need To Know

Stock Trading For Dummies - Details You Need To Know
The lure of letting money work for you is simply hard to resist. That's why a lot of people want to venture into the world of stock trading.

But there's more to it than buying and selling stocks. No one can just go into stock trading without at least some basic level knowledge on how it works. If that's what you're looking for, then this article is for you...

When you buy stocks, you're actually buying ownership in a company. You can either buy a common stock or a preferred stock. Common stocks make you a shareholder in a company, allowing you to have voting powers for every share you own in the election of the board of directors in the company's annual meeting. The profit you earn from common stocks is based on the number of shares you hold. The downside of buying common stocks is that whenever a company folds, you'll be the last to get paid (if ever you do get paid) and that would mean losing your investment.

While more expensive than common stocks, preferred stocks guarantee investors a dividend in the company profits, and thus provide more security. In case the company fails, preferred shareholders will definitely be paid ahead of the common stockholders but only after the company has settled its debts with banks and other financial institutions.

A stock price rises or falls based on the demands of the market relative to the supply. If the demand is high and the supply is short, then there is a corresponding rise in stock market prices. When you want to buy stocks from a company, it would be well-worth your time to check out its track record. One of the most important factors to take into consideration is its earnings per share over time since that will definitely tell you a lot about the value of the stock you're planning to purchase.

So how do you buy stocks? You could work with brokers or buy it directly from the company. The advantage of working with full-service brokers is that you get the benefit of their expertise and experience through personalized attention. They tell you what stocks to buy, when to buy it and when to let it go. Dividend Reinvestment Plans and Direct Investment Plans are usually offered by companies so that you can buy stock and securities directly from them or reinvest any dividend you receive to buy more shares.

Investing in stocks gives you an opportunity to amass great wealth, but it also gives you an equal chance of losing your investment. The information that you read here is certainly not enough - you have to understand all the facets of stock trading before you actually go into the process of buying and selling stocks. It is also important to keep abreast of the news since stocks are influenced by political, social and economic events. Learn all you can before you take the dive. Dummies For Babies

Dummies For Babies

As a Midwife and Child Health Nurse who works closely with babies from birth to 5 years old, I have some useful insight into the use of a dummy for babies that I would like to share with you.

• 6 positive reasons for a baby to use a dummy
• 5 ways a baby can be disadvantaged for using a dummy
• What type of dummy to choose

Not all babies take to sucking a dummy but there are certainly babies in the world that benefit from sucking one. These are

1. Babies who are 3 - 4 weeks old who have learnt to attach and feed well from the breast but think they should feed constantly. In this situation, the breast feeding mother and her nipples could do with some relief and possibly repair from constant sucking. It is however, important not to substitute a breast feed for a dummy soothe as this can reduce milk production resulting in an undernourished and unsettled baby

2. A baby sucking a dummy can reduce their tummy discomfort and pain until the cause of the pain and discomfort is diagnosed and relieved

3. Sucking a dummy can reduce the pain of oesophageal reflux allowing for a bit more sleep!

4. Recent knowledge indicates a baby sucking a dummy can reduce the incidence of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This is thought to be due to a baby being in a more alert state of sleep and having their airways in a more open position allowing for better air entry. There are also other factors relating to the reduction of SIDS

5. Premature babies are given a dummy to encourage them suck when they are fed via a tube and to stimulate their suck before they are able to breast feed.

6. A baby who settles to sleep best with a sucking action. Commonly, a baby who is fed either breast milk or infant formula from a bottle requires a dummy to build up the length of sucking time required in a day.

Here are 5 reasons why a baby is disadvantaged using a dummy.

1. There is an increased risk of bacterial infections from dirty dummies. Sterilise them regularly and throw out any that have cracks or worn areas where bacteria can settle.

2. The continued use of a dummy after 3 - 4 months can set up strong sleep associations that can lead to unsettled sleep in the months that follow.

3. The regular and frequent use of a dummy has been shown to decrease the length of time a woman will continue to breast feed.

4. A young baby who sucks too often on a dummy can be too tired for nutritional breast feeding.

5. The use of a dummy after 9 months can not only disturb good sleep patterns but it can also interrupt speech development.

It can be difficult to know which dummy is best when there is a large variety on the market. Consider these 3 things which closely mimic a breast nipple.

1. Look for the dummy that is soft and supple. The brown latex rubber is usually the softest.

2. Choose a shape that is similar to a nipple, this is usually the round cherry or bulb shaped dummy.

3. It needs to be large enough to reach back into the back of the baby's mouth. This will depend on the size of baby.

With the above information in mind, I believe there is a place for a dummy in a baby's life providing that it is an appropriate dummy used at an appropriate time and only for the first 3 - 4 months of life when a baby's strong sucking reflex is present. After this they discover other ways to be soothed other than a dummy.

Campaigns to a Dream: Direct Marketing for Dummies

Campaigns to a Dream: Direct Marketing for Dummies

Putting together direct marketing campaigns typically conjures up the ‘bigger is always better' mentality.  The line of thought is by piling up the inbox with email blasts notifying your targets that there's a holiday sale at a department store or a buy-one-get-half-off at the local deli, your target will place your good or service top of mind in making their purchase decision.

The truth is, you're likely annoying the you-know-what out of your audience with all these types of spam.

So when mapping out your next direct marketing plans, the old axiom of "Keep It Simple, Stupid" should be uttered over and over again.  Why? Because the average email reader spends roughly seven seconds per email message.

Here are some tips to grab their attention and improve your return on investment:

Hocus, focus.  To borrow from our friends in the news field, mapping out a strategy requires the five Ws: who, what, where, when and why.  By teaming up a social media-monitoring program with an updated marketing database, your campaign will have a firm focus on what the five Ws should entail.

Bold, fresh attention getters.  If you bought or purchased anything from a retailer, chances are you've provided them with either a home address or an email address so they can contact you.  As a result, your mailbox—or email inbox—is filled to the brim with all sorts of sales collateral that likely gets tossed aside in attempt to keep things tidy.  To stand out amongst the crowd, create an attention-getting headline (direct mail) or an appealing subject line (direct e-mail) to grab their focus. Furthermore, these headlines are the first step in a process that creates initial contact with your prospects and can lead to a call to action.

Give ‘em the 4-1-1.  When putting together the copy for mailers, give the consumer all the details to assist them in making a decision.  The more you can give them—features, benefits, etc.— the more improved your chances of getting customers to act.  Whatever it is you want from them, tell them in the copy!

Stop spinning those wheels and gain some traction with these short tips to improve your direct marketing campaigns!

Do you have any recommendations for direct marketing planning? Visit http://www.abstraktmg.com/blog/post/2010/12/17/Campaigns-to-a-Dream-Direct-Marketing-for-Dummies.aspx.

Currency trading For Total Dummies

Currency trading For Total Dummies

Forex (international change) refers to the foreign currency exchange market the world’s largest monetary buying and selling market. Go your self as a Forex professional with these buzz words:

•Bid – to buy
•Ask – to promote
•Liquidity – monetary ease of transaction, i.e. money
•buying and selling volume – the quantity traded
•Bid/ask spread – the difference between the proposed shopping for worth and the actual selling worth
•OTC – over-the-counter
•change rate – the difference between currency values; for example, a Canadian dollar is valued at .86 of a US dollar
•Hedge funds – giant mutual funds companies that management huge amounts of cash and are in a position to manipulate the worth of a currency by speculation
•Central bank – the nationwide bank of a nation, which often exerts management over the worth of that currency

Forex trading is the investment in the currency of 1 nation. Multinational Corporations doing business across nationwide boundaries find value in conserving their money reserves in a variety of countries, and holding their funds in a myriad of ways. For instance, a UK corporation might hold a share of its working capital in UK kilos, but when it does quite a bit of business in USA it might additionally keep a share of its money in dollars, in US banks. Particular person investors over the a long time have discovered that there’s profit to be made in investment and speculation in the currency markets.

Take the case throughout the 70’s when the German DM swung quickly in value. It was value wherever from 1.2 marks to the US dollar to 3.5 US marks to the dollar. When the mark was value 2.5 it was beneficial to spend dollars shopping for marks, since the mark would buy more items or companies at that rate. As the mark bottomed out 1.7 to the dollar there was less incentive.

Surprisingly, the Forex market itself shouldn’t be unified. One can find many small Forex markets specializing in buying and selling numerous currencies. The most generally traded currencies in Forex speculation are the US dollar, the Australian dollar, the British pound sterling, the Japanese yen, and the European Euro. currency values vary relying on the market by which an investor is speculating, so there’s really no such factor as a single, unified dollar rate, however as a substitute there are a number of dollar rates, which vary according to the market where the commerce is occurring.

The foremost cities by which trades occur embody New York, London, and Tokyo. It’s a 24 hour process. When Asian buying and selling ends, European buying and selling commences, and when European buying and selling ends, then American buying and selling opens. Naturally, when American buying and selling ends, it’s time for Asian buying and selling to open house as soon as more… and so on.

At present, The most actively traded currency is the US dollar, involved in 90% of all trades. This is adopted by the Euro involved in 36% of all trades, then by the yen in 20% and the pound in 17%.

Our quickest rising currency in commerce is the Euro, nevertheless the US dollar continues to be the favored anchor point– and the currency watched in order to guage how others will react. Variations in value of currencies come from the present events. GDP development, inflation dips, interest rate swings, price range and commerce deficits, surpluses and different financial conditions all shift currency values. investors, for this reason, observe the news very closely. There are 24 hour cable news channels and plenty of web sites devoted to news that support currency speculators.

The forex market is highly inclined to rumors. In reality the central banks of countries incessantly manipulated native currency value by sowing rumors about interest rate hikes and different financial propaganda that impacts the worth of the domestic currency. When this news is fake it is known as a grimy float- and it dismays the market.

Forex Trading Guide supplies training tutorials, forex trading tips, free forex strategies and systems, advices on forex cources and help you to select fx brokers.

As most of us know, there's life outside Seoul. Busan is often an overlooked city, as many flock to Seoul, bright lights, big capital. But ask any Korean and they will tell you - Korea's second largest city Busan is by no means the ugly sister in the family. In fact, Busan is the real Korea. Colorful, brash but endearing, Busan is a rough diamond that certainly speaks for itself, as spending time with the locals will show you. Busan may feel like second fiddle for now but it's time is coming.

What to see?

Haeundae Beach

If you're going to head to the beach then there are seven in Busan to choose from. You must see Haeundae Beach - the most popular beach in Korea. Crowds cram this place every day in August and umbrellas mushroom across this 2km space but it has to be seen to be believed. Don't expect any great shakes as far as quiet beach resorts go, just enjoy it for what it is, it's an experience you won't forget. If personal space is more your thing, avoid July and August, there are less crowds and it is a more tranquil place - you may not be able to swim but a stroll along the white sands and the sounds of seagulls is perfect on a cool spring day. Just opt for exit 3 from Haeundae station, turn left and walk 250m.

Heosimcheong Spa

Located just 15 minutes from Oncheonjang train station, Heosimcheong Spa is a complete chill out zone. Supposedly, the biggest hot spa in Asia, it has a none too meek capacity of 2,000 people. Based on the 4th floor, it is packed with tubs and saunas. You can grab a robe and kick back for a couple of hours, all for the princely sum of 8,000 won. Body scrubs and massages are extra and last entry is 9 pm.

Beomeosa Temple

If you're into temples check out this majestic Buddhist temple which is one of the main highlights on a trip to Busan and doesn't fail to impress. Located at the base of the famous Geumjeongsan Mountain, it's the stairway to heaven.

In "Donggukjeojiseungram" (historical text) the origin of the temple is told and has an interesting legend behind it. They say, there was a well at the top of the mountain and the water was, well, gold. Apparently, the golden fish in the well rode the colorful clouds and came down from the sky (sounds feasible to me). That is why the mountain is named Geumsaem (gold well) and the temple is named "fish from heaven." Maybe the story does sounds rather far fetched but the serenity and beauty of the place is amazing and good for the soul. The idyllic setting actually makes you want to experience psychedelic things, such as gold fish riding candy colored clouds.

The original temple was destroyed during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 but was renovated in 1713. It is one of the most ornate temples from the Joseon Dynasty. Despite its city location, it is set against a lush, mountainous backdrop. To get there take the subway to Beomeosa train station (exit 5), walk 200m to the small bus station and finally take bus No.90 for 15 minutes.

Where to sleep?

Splashing out

If you want to splash out then aim for The Westin Chosun Beach Hotel, the chief of Busan's deluxe hotels. Established in 1978, and Busan's first international hotel, its excellent service, panoramic views, idyllic beachfront position and small forest to the rear, are nicer than nice. The hotel has the feeling of a grand old hotel, and the only downside is that it could do with an upgrade in design, for a more modern feel. With six restaurants to choose from, all of them looking onto the rippling ocean, it's easy to delude yourself you're not part of the urban massive, well for a night or two anyway. Sipping cocktails over white sands in the Panorama Lounge, you could literally melt into the ocean. The seafood at Kuromatsu, the hotels sleek and contemporary sushi restaurant is affordably priced and has a vast array of succulent raw and cooked fish. In Camellia, the innovative buffet chefs can prepare your customized dish on the spot for you. If you want to take it easy, the sauna, spa, pool, and health centre, are all included. There are special discounts, when traveling off season.

Mid range

The Riviera Hotel is located in Haeundae, strangely enough, over the Riviera department store. The attractive, spacious and clean rooms have well off peak rates.

Cheap as chips

If you're on a limited budget, there is no need to worry, as there are a myriad of cheap yeogwan around Busan from 20,000-30,000 won. One worth mentioning is Tae Yang Yeogwan. From the outside it looks a bit shady, but the rooms in this motel are clean, spacious and come with queen size beds for 25,000 won a night. It's just behind the Arirang Hotel, just exit Busan train station and turn left. There are plenty more options around the area.

Where to eat?

The local specialty here is salty, spicy, raw fish, and many come from all over the country to sample the fare. This however can be a shade expensive. Head for Seomyeon or Nampo-dong, where you can find all sorts of restaurants to suit all budgets. Millak Town Raw Fish Centre has an authentic Korean buzz. Based at the northeast end of Gwangalli Beach, you can buy a fish for 20,000-30,000 won from the vendors on the 1st floor and whisk it upstairs another floor where the food is spruced and served for you in minutes for a further 10,000 won. Ride the subway to Gwangan station and take exit 5. Cho-won Blow Fish serves, yes, blowfish, in this out of the way restaurant. The bokmaeuntang (spicy blowfish soup) is tasty indeed. Take exit 3 from Namcheon station and walk to the second corner. Turn left and continue ahead for 300m.

Drinks?

There are literally thousands of bars ranging from smooth hotel bars to your local pub, and a vast array of Noraebang (Karaoke rooms), they are mainly concentrated around the Haeundae beach area. Mi Wharf is at the most easterly point of the Haeundae beach promenade, its outdoor drinking area has prize sunset views. After 10 pm Moo Monk is a retro bar if you are looking for something funky.

Take me there

The most memorable journey to Busan is by bullet train, a little expensive but well worth the cost of 45,000 won each way for the sheer experience of speeding down to Busan in two and a half hours.

Covered Calls For Dummies

Covered Calls For Dummies
Covered Call Definition

When an investor purchases shares of a stock and then sells (also referred to as writes) call options against the stock, this is called a covered call.

Why are they Called Covered Calls?

When you sell (write) an option at whatever strike price you choose, you are contractually obligated to deliver that stock to the seller at option expiration. Its covered because you already own the underlying stock. The riskiest option is called a naked call. In the above example if you sell a call at $ 45 without buying the underlying stock (many brokerages will not allow just anyone to do this) and the stock goes to $ 100, you will be required to buy it at the $ 100 and give it to the buyer. OUCH. There is unlimited risk.

The price you receive for selling the call is the option premium. This is yours to keep and is transferred to your account immediately. If the call option expires (its below the strike price that was sold), either you sell the underlying stock and keep the premium or you keep the stock and sell more options for the next month.

If the stock price runs up and is higher than the strike price of the call that was sold, the writer has two options; surrender the stock at the higher price, forgoing the gains and keeping 100% of the premium, or buy back the call at the higher price and possibly sell next months (or weeks) to offset the difference.

Also known as a buy / write, covered call writers usually sell calls when they have either a neutral or slightly bullish or bearish outlook in the near term for the stock.

Why is it Better to be an Option Seller than an Option Buyer?

First, selling (writing) covered calls produces instant cash. The Options Clearing Council (OCC) estimates that only 10% of all options contracts are exercised, leaving 90% never being exercised. Even if that math is off a little, selling options and having them expire worthless (a good thing for the seller) has an astronomically higher probability.

Who Writes Covered Calls?

Most people do not realize that options were created for insurance against stock losses and to maximize gains. So large institutional money managers, pension funds, mutual fund, hedge funds, just about any institution that holds a large amount of stock, writes covered calls to increase their returns.

In a famous Wall Street interview, a notable fund manager said he would be fired for holding naked stock. He was naked because without the selling the covered call, the only way he could make money was to have the stock go up! If you ever wondered why these funds have huge returns while everyone else hopes for 10% a year, this is one reason.

Covered Call Caveats

There are caveats to writing covered calls though. The biggest complaint for new covered call writers is that the stock suddenly blasts way past their strike price and they miss out on the big gains. This happens. One way to minimize this is to understand the personality of your stock. If the stock is in a solid uptrend and keeping above its key moving averages, then its probably not a good candidate to write unless you choose a far out of the money strike that still has decent premium.

Conversely, if the stock is trending down, a call writer can minimize the downside by selling an in-the-money call, reducing the ownership basis. For example, if Las Vegas Sands (LVS) is at $ 45.25 and the chart is trending down, you could sell a next month $ 44 call (at the time of this writing) and collect $ 3.90, making your basis $ 41.25. In this case you just bought almost 9% worth of protection, meaning the stock can fall to $ 41.35 and you would break even. If the stock stayed at $ 45.25 you would have to give up the stock for $ 44, but you still would have $ 2.65 (out of the original $ 3.90) premium in your pocket.

Like the example above to not write if the stock is trending up, if the stock is tanking, sell and get out of the way!

Call Strategies

Many savvy investors do this every month; creating a paycheck with minimal risk that can easily be 3% to 5% of the invested funds (thats 48% a year and 60% if compounded, meaning that no funds are withdrawn. Its important to know the various call strategies when selling covered calls.

A writer needs to understand how the stock is trending, how the stocks sector is trending and what the broad market (Dow, S&P, etc) is doing.

Tim Leary is a full time trader and writes (sells) covered calls, earning 3% to 5% monthly in bull and bear markets, with limited risk. To get a 50-page http://www.mycoveredcallwriting.com/covered-call-writing.html">covered call writing report, click here.
